How to Fix Low or Muffled Sound on Phone Receiver
It can be frustrating when you're on an important phone call, and the voice on the other end is muffled. It's difficult to comprehend what the other person is saying when their voice is unclear. Luckily, we have solutions to help you troubleshoot this issue on your OPPO phone. Take a look below.
Muffled/low sound on OPPO phone
You can troubleshoot this problem by following the steps below. Continue to the next steps if the issue is not fixed.
Step 1: Remove the metal protective phone case
Metal protective cases have the characteristics of shielding and anti-interference, which may cause poor signal. Remove the metal protective case to see if the issue can be solved.
Step 2: Restart your phone
Restarting your phone clears up software glitches that may impair the sound. Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons for at least eight seconds until you see the OPPO logo.

Step 3: Check your phone's signal strength
Ensure that your phone's signal is strong. If not, move to a nearby location with a better signal.
Confirm whether VoLTE is turned on and whether the VoLTE network is normal. If there is an abnormality in the VoLTE network, turn off and turn on the VoLTE network.
Cross-check the SIM card and phone to determine whether the SIM card causes the problem. Bring your phone to the service center for inspection if the issue still occurs with a different SIM card.
Step 4: Check your Internet connection
If you hear a muffled sound when making calls through VoLTE or third-party applications, check your phone's internet connection. Connect to a stronger network and re-try.
Step 5: Check your screen protector
Ensure that your screen protector does not block the phone receiver. Remove or replace with a better-fitting screen protector if it's blocking the receiver. To know where to buy the appropriate screen protector for your OPPO smartphone, go to this link.
Step 6: Clean the phone receiver
During daily use, your phone's receiver might collect dirt and debris. If meshes appear clogged, gently brush the receiver hole with a clean, soft-bristled brush.
Step 7: Turn up the volume
For ColorOS 5.0 and above: Go to [Settings] > [Sound & Vibration] > [Volume], and then you can separately set the ringer volume, media volume, and alarm volume to the maximum.
On other OPPO smartphones: Go to [Settings] > [Sound & Vibration] to set the volume at maximum.
For ColorOS 3.1 and 3.2: Go to [Settings] > [Sound & Vibration] > [Volume], and then you can separately set the ringer volume and Media volume to the maximum.
For ColorOS 3.0: Go to [Settings] > [Sound and Vibration] > [Ringtone Adjustment] and then set the ringer to the maximum.
Step 8: Use the speaker mode
If the issue persists, try calling through the speaker mode and check if the sound is muffled.
Step 9: Test and detect problems
Check if the audio of your OPPO phone has some errors through Common Problem/ Routine check or Diagnostics. See How to Detect/Calibrate Audio (Speaker, Receiver, Microphone and Unplug and Plug in Headset) on OPPO Phone?
Step 10: Reset the phone to factory settings
If the sound is still muffled during speakerphone calls, back up and transfer your data, then perform a factory data reset. See How to Factory Reset an OPPO Phone.
