3.2.12 Why does the yellow light continue to turn on after the charging box is unplugged (it was also yellow before unplugging)?——hardware
If your product lights up in yellow when it is charged by USB, and then lights up for a while after unplugging the USB, it may be that the USB port is dirty. For charging safety, the charging box has activated a protection mechanism. It is recommended that you clean the dirty USB port and leave the charging case for 10 minutes, the yellow light will automatically go out.
3.2.13 Why is the headset or charging box not fully charged/the indicator of the charging box stays yellow for a long time (more than 2.5 hours)?-Hardware
It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the OPPO Enco Buds (headphones + charging case). The indicator light will turn yellow during charging, and the indicator light will turn green when fully charged.
If you find that the yellow light is on for a long time during charging (far more than 2.5 hours) or the battery is still not full after unplugging the USB after charging for a long time (far more than 2.5 hours), this may be due to the following reasons
(1) The ambient temperature is too high/too low during charging, resulting in unsatisfactory charging.
(2) The charging port is dirty, which causes the charging safety protection to be activated. At this time, it will also cause the charging to be insufficient.
We suggest you
(1) Retry charging at room temperature;
(2) Retry charging after cleaning the charging port.
3.3 Battery status FAQs
3.3.1 Why is the play time of my earbuds rather short?—Hardware
1. Problem description: short play time
2. Causes:
a) The earbuds have low battery power.
b) The battery will drain faster at higher volume levels.
c) The battery will drain faster when the earbuds are used near sources of strong electromagnetic interference or when there are walls or other obstacles between the earbuds and mobile phone.
d) The battery capacity will be reduced in low temperatures.
3. Solutions:
a) It is recommended that you use the earbuds after they are fully charged.
b) It is recommended that you turn down the volume and check the play time again.
c) Please move away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors, and make sure there are no obstacles between the earbuds and mobile phone.
d) Please use the device in room temperature (25℃) and check the play time again.
3.3.2 Battery-related: the earbuds won't turn off automatically/the battery drains completely overnight/battery drops even when not in use —Hardware
If the earbuds are not in use for a long time, they will enter the low-power standby mode so that they are ready to reconnect to your phone at any time. Fully charged earbuds will provide more than 30 hours of play time in standby mode. If you won't use the earbuds for a long period of time, please put them back into the charging case and make sure the charging contacts/pins are in good contact.
3.3.3 I set aside my earbuds for a few days and they run out of juice. Why?—Hardware
If you put the earbuds in the charging case without closing the lid, the earbuds and the case are in standby mode (both will consume power slowly), and the case will not charge the earbuds. Please put your earbuds into the charging case and close the lid when you aren't using them.
3.3.4 How can I check the earbuds' battery level on my phone?—Software
1. After you connect the earbuds to your phone, the battery level of the earbud that has lower power left will be displayed on the notification bar. You can check it in the upper right corner of the screen, or go to Settings>>Bluetooth>>Paired Devices.
2. For OPPO phones running Color OS 11.0 (with oppo wireless device.apk 3.7.72+ version) or later, each time you connect the earbuds with your phone, a pop-up dialog box will display the battery level of the earbuds and charging case. You may view the battery level of the earbuds in Settings>>Bluetooth>>Paired Devices.
3. For iPhone users, you can also see the battery level in the upper right corner of the screen.
Note: Some mobile phones do not display the battery level of Bluetooth devices on the notification bar.
3.3.5 Why can't I view the battery level on phones of other brands? —Software
OPPO Enco Buds reports the battery level to all smartphones. However, where it is displayed depends on the UI design of each brand. Please contact the customer service of the specific brand for help.
3.3.6 I notice a big difference in battery levels between the two earbuds. What should I do? —Software
OPPO Enco Buds may have inconsistent power levels between the left and right earbuds under the following circumstances:
1. The more heavily used earbud will have lower power level.
2. The earbud that has been charged in the charging case will have higher power level.
3. When you make long phone calls, in-call noise reduction will be activated on one of the earbuds, so that the other party will hear you more clearly. With the function on, the main earbud will consume more power because it has to upload the recordings to the phone.
In these cases, it is normal for the left and right earbuds to have inconsistent power levels. Please charge the earbuds in the charging case.
4 Appearance, Structure, and Accessories
4.1 What accessories come with OPPO Enco Buds?—Product
You will get three pairs of eartips (L, M, S), of which the M size eartips have been mounted on the earbuds, a quick start guide, and a safety guide.
Note: Type-C cable and adapter are not included in the box. Please use branded chargers and cables.
4.2 How can I choose/change eartips?—Ergonomics
Human ears, especially ear canals, come in different sizes. Some people may have a wider ear canal on one side than the other, so eartips of the same size may not fit both ears. Choose the eartips that make a good seal with your ear canal. You might need different sizes for your left and right ears. When the fit is right, the earbuds will be seated comfortably and securely in your ears.
4.3 It's not easy to open the case with one hand.—Structure
The earbuds lie flat in the case. It is advised that you open the case with both hands, so that they won't slip when you take them out.
4.4 It's difficult to take out the earbuds.—Structure
For charging purpose, the earbuds are attached to the case by magnets. If you find it difficult to remove, you may push the earbuds sideways while pulling them upward.
4.5 The shaft looks like not strong enough. Will it break easily? —Structure
Our products withstood 20,000 open/close tests, after which the shaft still works. The gap between the lid and body slightly widens, but it won't affect user experience.
4.6 The charging case lid shakes vertically when opened or closed. —Structure
To ensure that the charging case can be opened and closed with ease, we designed a gap between the charging case lid and body. The design has been proven after 20,000 open/close tests. Please rest assured.
4.7 How long will the earbuds last? —Quality
The warranty period of OPPO Enco Buds/Air is one year, but we design the product to a much higher standard. It is normal that the lithium-ion battery degrades and the battery life gets shorter over time.
4.8 There is a gap between the lid and body even when the charging case is closed.—Structure
To provide a longer lifespan and better user experience, we reserve an appropriate gap between the charging case lid and body.
4.9 Are the earbuds attached to the charging case? Will they fall off?—Structure
The earbuds are secured in the case by magnets. They won't detach unless you pull them. The same goes for the charging case. It won't open unless you pull it.
4.10 Tips to take good care of the earbuds—Quality
1. Avoid prolonged exposure to liquids or damp environments.
2. Never use abrasive cleaner to clean the earbuds.
3. Avoid prolonged exposure to low temperatures (below 0℃), heat (above 45℃), or environments with great temperature variations, which may lead to battery damage.
4. Avoid exposure to flames, which may cause explosion.
5. Stay away from sharp objects to avoid scratches or damage.
6. Do not insert anything into the earbuds, which may damage the components.
7. Do not try to disassemble the earbuds.
8. Keep the earbuds in a dry place after use. If the earbuds are left unused for more than 1 month, recharge the battery regularly to avoid over-discharge.
9. Clean the charging contacts of the earbuds in time after workouts or heavy sweating.
10. Dust regularly the charging contacts of the earbuds to avoid poor contact with the charging case.
11. Clean regularly the speaker mesh to restore performance and avoid bacterial infections of the external ear canal.
4.11 Is it waterproof?—Structure
The charging case is not waterproof. The earbuds are IP54 dust-proof and waterproof, and are protected against water splashed from all directions. It is advised that you wipe the earbuds immediately after sweating, especially the charging contacts (silver plated copper) before putting the earbuds into the charging case. Water and dust resistance is not permanent. Resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge wet OPPO Enco Buds or swim with the earbuds. Damage caused by immersion in liquid is not covered by the warranty.

5.2.15 Why do the earbuds lag during video watching or gaming? (official statement)—Software
OPPO Enco Buds feature binaural Bluetooth transmission, further reducing latency from the traditional forwarding mechanism.
Contributors to video latency:
1. The earbuds have an inherent audio latency. On top of that, some video player apps including Tudou and Bilibili do not support audio/video lag compensation, resulting in a latency of 200-300 ms.
2. The audio and video may not sync correctly in some videos. To check whether it's a problem with the video itself, you may disconnect the earbuds and play the video through the phone speaker.
Contributors to gaming latency:
1. The latency may vary across different phones, games, earphones, and environments. You may use game mode for lower latency.
2. It is recommended that you use the earbuds with OPPO phones, on which we achieve even lower latency for some games such as Perfect Piano and Game for Peace.

a) Please move away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens.
b) Turn on the volume on your phone, or turn up the volume on your earbuds. (Long press the control area of the right earbud. When you hear a beep, the earbuds are at max volume.)
c) Disconnect the earbuds from phone, put the earbuds into the charging case and close the lid, and reconnect after 5 seconds. Or, disconnect the other Bluetooth device from phone.
d) If none of the above solutions works, please restore the earbuds to factory settings, or put them into the charging case, close the lid, and reopen the case after 30 seconds.
5.3.3 Why does the sound still play through the speaker when earbuds are connected?—Software
1. Problem description: The earbuds have been connected to phone, but sounds from music, video, and calls still play through the speaker.
2. Causes: Media Audio or Phone Audio is disabled.
3. Solutions: After the earbuds are connected to your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth, next to OPPO Enco Buds, and enable Media Audio and Phone Audio.
a) On the Bluetooth settings page of your phone, disconnect the earbuds, and then reconnect.
b) Disable Bluetooth on your phone, enable it again, and the earbuds will be automatically reconnected to your phone.
c) Re-pair the earbuds and your phone: With both earbuds in or outside the charging case, press the control area of both earbuds for 4 seconds.
d) If none of the above solutions works, please restore the earbuds to factory settings, or put them into the charging case, close the lid, and reopen the case after 30 seconds.
5.3.4 Why is one earbud louder than the other?—Software
If occurring occasionally, it may be caused by Bluetooth transmission. Electromagnetic waves in your area may interfere with the Bluetooth connection. In this case, the earbuds may have no sound or uneven left/right volume output. It is advised that you reconnect the earbuds and your phone. Please keep away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors.
However, this is normal when you listen to music in stereo, in which case the left and right channels receive different sound signals to create a good stereo effect.
5.3.5 Does OPPO Enco Buds support the AAC codec?—Product
Yes.
5.3.6 Sound stutters during music play in railway stations, substations, or some other environments.—RF
Exposure to sources of strong electromagnetic interference impacts the earbuds performance and causes sound stutters. This is a universal issue for Bluetooth devices.
The earbuds should work fine at home and in offices, cafes, and other environments where the interference is not strong.
5.3.7 A single-tap of the earbuds always opens the phone's built-in music player. —Product
When the earbuds give a play command to your phone while it's at home screen, the phone may launch its own player by default instead of third-party apps. This has to do with the phone design, and phones of different brands may act differently. Non-OPPO phones may allow you to change the default settings. It is advised that you open the preferred music player before giving the play command on earburds.
5.3.8 The audio quality is fine during music play, but turns poor when playing games.—Software
The phone runs on A2DP for music listening, and HFP for gaming. HFP supports a narrower bandwidth and delivers relatively poor sound quality.
5.3.9 Why can't I hear any sound from one earbud or both earbuds during use?—Software
1. Problem description: There is no sound from one earbud or both during calls, music play, and WeChat voice messaging.
2. Causes:
a) The Bluetooth has been disabled on your phone by mistake.
b) Electromagnetic waves in your area may interfere with the Bluetooth connection. In this case, the earbuds may have no sound.
c) You have been out of the effective Bluetooth range.
3. Solutions:
a) Check whether the Bluetooth on your phone has been disabled. If yes, please switch it on.
b) Please keep away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors.
c) Put the earbuds close to your phone and reconnect them. If the problem persists, put the earbuds into the charging case, close the lid, and reconnect after 5 seconds.
d) If the problem persists, re-pair the earbuds with your phone. With both earbuds in or outside the charging case, press the control area of both earbuds for 4 seconds until the charging case indicator blinks green slowly.
If none of the above solutions works, please restore the earbuds to factory settings, or put them into the charging case, close the lid, and reopen the case after 30 seconds.
5.3.10 I set the earbuds to minimum volume when the absolute volume control is on. After I disable the absolute volume control, I can't hear any media audio. —Software
Long press the control area of the right earbud and turn up the volume of the earbuds. When you hear a beep, the earbuds are at max volume.
5.3.11 The sound quality for music listening is not good.—Acoustics
1. Electromagnetic waves in your area may interfere with the Bluetooth connection. In this case, the earbuds may have no sound or audio stutters. Please keep away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors.
2. Bluetooth audio codecs have a great impact on sound quality. Go to Settings > Bluetooth on your phone and switch on HD Audio for the Bluetooth device, or set the codec to AAC.
3. The way you wear the earbuds may also affect the sound quality. Wearing them the wrong way may cause bass leakage. Please choose the eartips that allow for the most appropriate amount of bass.
5.3.12 How should I deal with high noise floor level and loud static noise? —Acoustics
1. Electromagnetic waves in your area may interfere with the Bluetooth connection. In this case, the earbuds may have no sound. Please keep away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors.
2. Noise floor is common among Bluetooth earbuds, due to their high-frequency signals and circuit design. Only a small number of them produce rather noticeable noise floor as a result of component differences, signal interference, or packet loss. And some people are more sensitive to such noise than others. But there is very little likelihood of that happening. We are so sorry for bringing you the poor experience.
5.4 Calls/voice assistance
5.4.1 How do I use the earbuds to answer/end a call?—Product
1. To answer a call, you may double-tap the control area of either earbud or tap the Answer button on the phone.
2. To make a phone call, wear the earbuds and dial the number on your phone's keypad. Or, you may use the voice assistant to call any contact on your phone. To cancel an outgoing call, double-tap the control area of either earbud.
3. To hang up a call, double-tap the control area of either earbud, or tap the End button on the phone during the call.
4. You may answer a call while listening to music or watching videos. The music or video will resume after the call ends.
5.4.2 Can any people hear my conversation during calls?—Product
No. By default, the earbuds can only be connected to one device at a time. Please rest assured that there won't be any crosstalk between devices.
5.4.3 During calls, the other party hears a low voice/loud ambient noise. Or, the in-call sound quality is even poorer than single-ear Bluetooth headsets. —Acoustics
1. Electromagnetic waves in your area may interfere with the Bluetooth connection. In this case, the earbuds may have no sound. Please keep away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as microwave ovens and monitors.
2. Please check whether the sound pick-up holes have been blocked by foreign matters.
3. Please check whether calls are received by using the earbuds. You may disconnect the earbuds from your phone, reconnect them, and try again.
4. In-call noise reduction works well for common noise in daily life, but it may compromise in the presence of a strong wind, on a fast-moving motorbike, or in other special scenes where wind pressure dampens sound pick-up. So please try to avoid using the earbuds for calls in places with powerful airflow. The in-call noise reduction may also be compromised in a hubbub. It is recommended that you raise your voice for better audio quality.
5.4.4 I can't answer calls through the earbuds when they are already connected to my iPhone.—Software
1. Problem description: No sounds come through the connected earbuds after a call is answered by swiping the phone screen.
2. Causes: When receiving calls on iPhone, you need to select the receiving device (phone speaker or earphones).
3. Solution: To answer a call through earbuds, you may double-tap the control area of the earbuds or manually select the receiving device on your iPhone. For outgoing calls on iPhone, you may also select the receiving device. By default, the audio comes through the earbuds.
5.4.5 Why do incoming calls come through the phone speaker sometimes, and the earbuds at other times? —Software
If you want to receive calls from the earbuds, please answer the calls by tapping the earbuds. We will upgrade the user experience on ColorOS 11.0. Please stay tuned for our system updates.
5.4.6 When the voice assistant is enabled, the voice messages on WeChat or QQ play through the phone speaker.—Software
Both the voice messages and voice commands are sent over the HFP, so either of them has to come through the phone speaker. The same problem exists in AirPods. There's nothing we can do about it at the moment.
5.4.7 Will the mic of phone or earbuds be activated for video and audio recording?—Software
It may vary across phones of different brands, software, and use cases.
If you use the earbuds' mic for phone calls, music play, voice messaging, and video/voice calls, the phone's mic might be activated for video and audio recording.
How to test: Connect the earbuds to your phone, open the recording app, wear the earbuds and move 3-5 meters away from your phone, and start recording. If the recording has no sound at all or the audio volume is low, the phone's mic is used; otherwise, the earbuds' mic is used.
5.4.8 Does the earbuds support noise reduction?—Product
OPPO Enco Buds supports passive noise reduction and blocks out ambient sounds physically. Active noise reduction is not supported.
5.4.9 When I make conference calls on my PC through the earbuds, people on the other end of the calls find my volume low. —Software
Some apps collect your voice by using the PC's mic during voice or video calls. Please troubleshoot the PC's mic.
5.4.10 Can I wake up the voice assistant through the earbuds? Which OPPO models support this feature? What other brands support this feature? —Software
For OPPO phone users, go to Settings > Bluetooth > OPPO Enco Buds > Earbuds Functions and set shortcuts (triple-tap the earbuds) to wake up the voice assistant. Other Android users may download the HeyMelody app to enable the feature.

5.5.3 Why is the music still playing when I take out the earbuds and put them in my hands/pocket? —Product
1. Problem description: Music won't pause when the earbuds are taken out. Or, music automatically plays even though the music has been paused before the earbuds are removed.
2. Causes: OPPO Enco Buds does not support wearing/in-ear detection. You may have tapped the control areas of the earbuds by mistake when removing the earbuds.
3. Solutions:
a) When you use only one earbud, it is recommended that you put the other into the charging case for charging.
b) If you don't want the single-tap feature, disable the feature in Settings of your phone or in the HeyMelody app.
5.5.4 Why does music automatically pause/play?—Product
1. Problem description: Music automatically pauses/plays.
2. Causes: You may have single-tapped the touch control area of the earbuds by mistake during use (when you take them out from the charging case or put them on).
3. Solutions:
a) Try to avoid the control area of the earbuds when you take them, as shown below.
b) If you don't want the single-tap feature, disable the feature in Settings of your phone or in the HeyMelody app.
5.5.5 Will there be harmful effects of prolonged earphone use?—Ergonomics
Please rest assured that the earbuds won't heat up given their small power. Moreover, every material that touches your skin has gone through strict tests for hazardous substances contained in electrical and electronic products. We make every effort to minimize the ill effects such as skin allergies caused by prolonged earphone use. However, prolonged use of in-ear earbuds may cause fatigue and ear pain when you remove them.
1. It is advised that you use snugly fitting eartips to reduce ear pain.
2. Long hours of high volume playing may tire your hearing and ear canal nerves and cause discomfort and pain. It is advised that you turn down the volume (long press the control area of the left earbud or the volume button of your phone) to an appropriate level, and remove the earbuds every two hours and relax and rub your ears.
3. If your ears itch after using the earbuds for a long time, you may clean your ear canals, switch to smaller eartips, and check whether the earbuds' surface has burrs or bulges. The hair inside our ears and earwax may react to the eartips differently as ear canal shapes vary among individuals. If the problem persists with swelling, redness, and even festering, please contact us immediately.
5.5.6 How well do the earbuds insulate noise?—Acoustics
OPPO Enco Buds adopts an all in-ear design. With the silicone eartips inserted into your ear canals, a nearly complete seal is formed, effectively insulating ambient noise.
It is advised that you stop using the earbuds whenever you need to hear your surroundings to stay safe, for example, while cycling or crossing streets.
5.5.7 I can hear my own breathing/heartbeats/footsteps when I put on the earbuds. —Ergonomics
The stethoscope effect is common among in-ear earphones that form a tight seal with your ears. The eartips of OPPO Enco Buds come in three sizes. Please choose the size that mostly snugly fit your ears. You may try a larger size to reduce the discomfort caused by air vibration in your ears.
5.5.8 My eardrums feel pressured even when the earbuds play nothing in my ears. —Ergonomics
OPPO Enco Buds provides you with better noise isolation and sound quality. The eartips come in three sizes. You may choose the size that fits you best.
5.5.9 My ears ache after long periods of earbuds use. —Ergonomics
You may change your eartips. Choose the eartips that make a good seal with your ear canal. You might need different sizes for your left and right ears. When the fit is right, the earbuds will be seated comfortably and securely in your ears (as shown below). It is advised that you remove the earbuds every two hours and relax and rub your ears. You may also adjust the earbuds in your ears to a more comfortable angle (as shown below) to reduce fatigue.
5.5.10 What should I do with ill-fitting earbuds? —Ergonomics
You may have been wearing the earbuds upside down or in the wrong ears. It is recommended that you use more suitable eartips and wear them correctly (as shown below). You may fine-tune their angles to improve stability.

We recommend that you follow the prompt and go to the OPPO Wireless Devices APK for OTA updates and custom earbuds settings. Note: After OPPO Enco Buds are successfully connected to your phone, you may find OPPO Wireless Devices at Settings > Bluetooth > OPPO Enco Buds > Earbuds Functions.

OPPO phones that have a built-in OPPO Wireless Devices APK support quick window pop-up as soon as the charging case is open. You may click Quick guide in the pop-up window to go through the earbuds operations, features, and the battery level of the earbuds and charging case. You may also customize earbuds operations in Earbuds Functions.
6.4.4 Models that support low-latency gaming—Software
1. The audio delay in wireless earphones is contributed by the phone, game app, and earphones. It requires their synergy to minimize the audio latency in true wireless earphones. The binaural simultaneous transmission technology and system upgrades reduce the full-path latency to 94 ms when the earbuds are used with OPPO phones, and to 47 ms at the earbuds end. For you, that means a smooth, stable, and lag-free game-play experience.
2. Models that support full-path low latency: to be added ( right now it’s not supported overseas)
3. For users of other OPPO models and third-party models, you may enable the game mode by triple-tapping the control area of the earbuds to reduce audio latency in games.
6.4.5 Can the earbuds be connected to TVs? —Software
Both OPPO S1 and OPPO R1 can be connected with OPPO Enco Buds. Other Bluetooth-enabled TVs may also connect with OPPO Enco Buds.
6.4.6 What is game mode in earbuds? —Product
1. You may tripple-tap the control area of either earbud to enable/disable the game mode on OPPO Enco Buds.
2. Game mode is a transmission mode designed for gaming. It reduces Bluetooth audio delay at the earbuds end, allows for audio-video sync, and provides you with a real-time gaming experience.
3. Exposure to sources of strong interference may dampen the performance of game mode. To ensure a smooth experience, the game mode is disabled by default, and will be automatically disabled after you put the earbuds into the charging case and close the lid.
4. To ensure good audio quality and experience, please try to avoid using the game mode near sources of strong electromagnetic interference such as railway stations, substations, airports, and traffic lights.
6.4.7 I can still feel the lag with the game mode on. —Software
The audio delay in wireless earphones is contributed by the phone, game app, and earphones, while the game mode only reduces latency at the earbuds end. You will still feel the lag brought by the phone and game app.
