What to Do When a Third-Party App Crashes on OPPO Phone
Frequent application crashes on your OPPO smartphone can happen due to several reasons, including insufficient storage space, weak internet connection, too many apps running at the same time, or outdated apps. Sometimes, even after trying all the necessary troubleshooting steps, the issue may persist. In such cases, it's possible that the operating system of your smartphone is responsible for the problem.
Prevent an application from crashing
If an app installed on your device is crashing, not responding, or working correctly, then you might want to try the following troubleshooting methods:
Check your internet connection
Some third-party applications rely heavily on a fast and reliable internet connection as time progresses. Ensure your internet source is stable. See Why OPPO Phone's Internet is Slow.
Force restart the phone
Force restarting your OPPO smartphone will kill and then relaunch the processes running in your system. To force restart your OPPO smartphone, press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons for more than 8 seconds to restart your device or until you see the OPPO logo.
Force stop the application
Force-stopping an errant or misbehaving application might restore it to normalcy. Perform the following steps to force stop an application on your OPPO smartphone:
For ColorOS 12 and above: [Settings] > [Apps] > [App management] > choose an application > [Force stop].
For ColorOS 7.0 and 11.3: [Settings] > [App Management] > [App List] > choose an application > [Force Stop].
For ColorOS 5.0 to 6.1: Go to [Settings] > [App Management] > choose an application > [Force Stop].
Clear the cache and data of the app
Clearing the cache and data of an application will remove all of its stored data, including messages, photos, videos, contacts, etc. in this application, from your device's memory or storage space. Doing this method will possibly rid you of all the data causing an application to misbehave or crash.
For ColorOS 12 and above: [Settings] > [Apps] > [App management] > choose an application > [Storage usage] > [Clear data] and [Clear cache].
For ColorOS 7.0 to 11.3: [Settings] > [App Management] > [App List] > choose an application > [Storage usage] > [Clear data] and [Clear cache].
For ColorOS 5.0 to 6.1: Go to [Settings] > [App Management] > choose an application > [Storage usage] > [Clear data] and [Clear cache].
Uninstall the application
Sometimes, an application crashes because your device doesn't have the updated version of the application. A simple reinstallation can resolve this problem. See How to Uninstall Applications from OPPO Phone.
Update the phone software
Sometimes a newer version of an app crashes because you're running it on an outdated Operating System (OS). Ensure that you keep your device's OS updated. Go to [Settings] > [Software updates] / [System updates] or [Settings] > [About phone] / [About device] and update your phone to the latest software version.

Reset the phone system settings
Incompatible settings might also be the culprit of an errant application. Try resetting your smartphone's system settings and see if it solves the issue. Go to this link to learn how to reset your OPPO phone to its phone system settings.
Note: This option is available with devices ColorOS 3.2 and above. In addition to this, this option will reset all system settings without deleting any data or media files.
Perform a factory reset on the device
If the issue persists despite performing all the necessary troubleshooting steps, reset your device to its factory settings. Back up and transfer your data, then perform a factory data reset. Go to this link to learn how to factory data reset your OPPO smartphone.
