Unable to Unlock My Phone with 'Hey Google' or 'OK Google'
Google Assistant is an excellent choice if you're looking for a virtual assistant that can perform various tasks through voice commands. One of its features includes the ability to lock and unlock your phone, which used to be available on Android devices but is no longer supported. Keep reading to find out why and what you can do about it.
Unlock Phone with Google Assistant feature Removed
The unlocked phone with Voice Match and the "OK Google" or "Hey Google" command feature is no longer available on Android devices as Google has removed the feature for security reasons.
As an alternative, Google has limited the “Voice Match” feature to launch the Assistant interface and give basic voice commands without needing to unlock your phone. This option is only available on devices running Android 8.0 and above. To check your phone's Android version, go to [Settings] > [About Phone] > [Android Version].
Enable Voice Match to use Google Assistant When Phone is Locked
On the home screen, tap the [Google] folder.
Open the [Google] app
, and tap the profile icon / your profile picture at the top-right corner of the screen.
* On some devices, open the [Google] app and tap the [More] icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
[Settings] > [Google Assistant] > [General] and toggle on [Google Assistant].
Go back to Google's [Settings] > [Voice] > [Voice Match].
Enable the [Hey Google] / [OK Google] options. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to set your voice for Voice Match.
Go back to Google's [Settings], tap [Google Assistant] > [Personal results], and turn on [Personal results].
Toggle on [Personal suggestions on the lock screen before you ask] and [On headphones].
This allows you to use the "Hey Google/ OK Google" command to wake your phone and give voice commands while the screen is still locked.
