How to Reset Passcode Using Email on OPPO Phone
Forgetting your lock screen password can prevent you from accessing your OPPO phone, especially if biometric methods such as fingerprint or face unlock are unavailable. This guide explains the situations where password recovery is possible and what options remain available based on your ColorOS version.
Important Notes About ColorOS Versions
OPPO has changed how lock screen password recovery works across software versions:
For ColorOS 5.0–6.x: Resetting the lock screen password using a bound security email may be available.
For ColorOS 7.0 and later (7–16): Email-based lock screen password reset is no longer supported.
For security reasons, OPPO does not store or retrieve lock screen passwords. If the password is forgotten, you must use Recovery Mode to reset the device, and all data on the phone will be erased.
To check your version (if the device is unlocked): [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device]
For Older Devices (ColorOS 5–6): Resetting With a Bound Security Email
If the phone runs ColorOS 5–6 and you previously bound a security email to the lock screen password, you may see a “Forgot Password” option after several unsuccessful unlock attempts.
Enter the security email address bound to the device.
Retrieve the verification code sent to that email.
Enter the code and tap [Done].
Set a new lock screen password.
How to Bind a Security Email (ColorOS 5–6 Only)
On older devices that still support this option:
Go to [Settings] > [Fingerprint, Face & Passcode] > [Privacy Passcode].
Enter your privacy encryption code.
Tap [Bind Security Email Address].
Re-enter your encryption code.
Enter your email and tap [Use] to confirm.
This binding applies to Privacy Passcode, not modern lock screen password systems.
For ColorOS 7 and Above: What To Do If You Forgot Your Password
If your device is running ColorOS 7–16, email password reset is not available. You may try the following:
Try Biometrics
If fingerprint or face unlock is enabled and has not been disabled by reboot or timeout, use it to access the phone.
Use Google’s “Find My Device” (if enabled before lockout)
If remote unlock was enabled before the lockout, you may be able to erase your device remotely:
Visit: https://www.google.com/android/find
Sign in with the Google account on the phone.
Select [Erase device].
This performs a factory reset and deletes all data.
Use Recovery Mode (Factory Reset)
If no unlock method works, you must reset the device via Recovery Mode.
Steps vary by model, but generally:
Power off the device.
Press and hold Power + Volume Down until Recovery Mode appears.
Select [Wipe data].
Confirm the reset.
