Why My OPPO Phone's Internet Connection Speed Is Slow
A fast and reliable internet connection is necessary to work efficiently. However, a slow connection speed can be frustrating and hinder productivity. If you are experiencing this issue on your OPPO phone, follow the troubleshooting steps outlined below.
Note: Check your phone's ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device].
When Using Mobile Data
If you're using your OPPO phone's mobile data connection, and the internet connection is slow, please do the following troubleshooting tips to resolve it:
Make sure your phone is not out of credit
Confirm with your mobile data provider to ensure that you still have sufficient credit available.
Check mobile data network signals
Network speed will become slow when the network signal is weak or cannot be received. Check Mobile data network signals on the status bar first:
2/3G
network signal: When signal strength is at 0-2 bars, the signal is weak.
4G
network signal: If the up and down arrows of the "4G" icon do not light on, the signal is weak.
Remove your phone case
A third-party phone case might affect or block the network signal reception. In addition to this, metal components of the casing can block the reception of the signal.
Check your location
When the location is in a network and the communication signal dead zones, the reception will be affected or completely fail. Make sure to use your phone in an open area within the operator's network coverage.
Mobile data network signals also get affected in crowded places such as schools, shopping malls, and auditoriums.
If you're traveling internationally, make sure that you have opted for roaming plans. Enable the mobile data and roaming on your phone for smooth functioning.
Check phone system settings
If using a dual SIM phone, try to use a different SIM (If it has Internet capability/Plan) to see if the speed is fine using the other SIM's Internet or not.
Select particular network type covered locally: [Settings] > [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Data] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > select the SIM you want to modify > [Preferred Network Type] > choose [4G/3G/2G/Auto].
If there is a VPN connection, disconnect it then reset APN to default settings:
1. For ColorOS 12 to ColorOS 13 and above: Go to [Settings] > [Mobile Network], tap your SIM card and look for [Access Point Name] > tap [3-dotted] icon on the upper right and tap [Reset Access Points].
2. For ColorOS 7 to ColorOS 11: Go to [Settings] > [SIM card & mobile data] > select a SIM card > [Access point names] > tap on [two-dotted] lines on the upper right corner > and tap [Reset Access Points].
Additional information: With some models, you can update APN in [Dual SIM & Cellular Data] > [SIM Card Info] > [Access Point Name].
Take out the SIM card, check if it isn't damaged, clean the chip and put the card back in, or try another SIM card on your phone to see if you fixed the issue.
Your phone will fail to get networks and communication signals if the SIM card is seriously worn out or damaged, you need to get a new SIM card from the operator.
If you cannot get a 4G network on your phone, check if that is supported on your SIM card first.
Contact your operator
Check with your operator if there are network failures and limits in your area.
Check with your operator if there are mobile data speed limits (e.g., JIO) or other SIM card functions that cause slow network speeds.
You cannot use the 2G network in some countries or regions (e.g. Singapore, Taiwan, and Australia) because the service has been ceased.
Check other possible conditions
Multiple apps running in the background will consume network speed and phone memory, so close the APPs when not in use timely manner. For example, downloading files in the background while watching videos online might affect the buffering speed of the videos. If you are worried that you cannot receive some applications' messages after they are cleaned, you can lock them up. Tap Menu and slide down the app. When you see a lock in the left corner, the app is successfully locked.
Viruses or malicious plug-ins in your phone will also result in slow network speeds. Do your regular security scan through The OPPO Phone Manager or Security Center.
When Using a Wi-Fi Connection
If you're using your OPPO phone's Wi-Fi connection, and the internet connection is slow, please do the following troubleshooting tips to resolve it:
Check the Wi-Fi signal on the status bar on the control center of your OPPO phone.
Make sure that you're within the router's range and can receive the signal of sufficient strength.
When connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, network speed might be slow for there are too many users.
Try to connect to other Wi-Fi networks and see if you fixed the problem.
Try other Wi-Fi networks on your phone to exclude phone problems.
Clean up the caches and junk files on your phone, and do security scanning.
If you are a Wi-Fi network administrator, restart the router.
Check with your operator if there are network failures and limits in your area.
If the abovementioned steps do not fix your concern, prepare your warranty card and contact your nearest OPPO Customer Service. You can also contact OPPO Support so we can help and assist you further with your concern. Depending on your region, you may check if you need to book an appointment before visiting your local Service Center.
