How to Speed Up Slow and Laggy OPPO Phone
If your OPPO phone feels slow, unresponsive, or lags during daily use, the issue is often related to storage usage, background activity, software compatibility, or system optimization settings. This guide walks you through practical steps to identify common causes and improve overall performance.
Step 1: Check Storage Availability
Low storage space is one of the most common causes of lag.
For ColorOS 13 and above: Go to [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device] > [Storage].
For ColorOS 11 and 12: Go to [Settings] > [Storage].
For ColorOS 3 to 7.2: Go to [Settings] > [Additional Settings] > [Storage]
Ensure sufficient free space is available
Delete unused files, large videos, or duplicate photos if storage is nearly full
If storage is consistently low, performance improvements may be limited.
Step 2: Close Unused Background Apps
Running too many apps in the background can consume system resources.
Tap the Recent Tasks / Multitask button
Swipe up to close unused apps
Avoid keeping heavy apps running unnecessarily
Step 3: Remove or Reinstall Problematic Apps
Some apps may cause performance issues after updates or due to compatibility problems.
Uninstall apps that frequently crash or lag
Reinstall them from Google Play Store or OPPO App Market
Downloading apps only from official stores helps reduce malware-related slowdowns.
Step 4: Clear Junk Files and System Cache
Temporary files can accumulate over time and affect performance.
For ColorOS 7.0 and above:
Open [Phone Manager]
Tap [Clean Up Storage]
Follow the on-screen prompts to remove junk files
Step 5: Perform a Security Scan
Malicious apps or plug-ins can slow down your phone.
Open [Phone Manager]
Tap [Virus Scan] / [Security Scan]

Step 6: Reduce Widgets and Dynamic Effects
Live wallpapers and constantly updating widgets can increase system load.
Remove unnecessary widgets from the home screen
Use static wallpapers instead of animated ones
Avoid unofficial plug-ins or launchers
Step 7: Update ColorOS
System updates often include performance improvements and bug fixes.
Go to [Settings] > [Software Update] / [System Update]
Install the latest available version
Updating can improve stability, app compatibility, and power management.
Step 8: Restart Your Phone Regularly
Restarting clears temporary system data and refreshes memory.
Restart your phone at least once a week
To restart, press and hold the Power button and follow on-screen instructions
