Why is Youtube No Longer Supported in Android 7 and Below Devices
If you are using an older Android device running Android 7 or below, you may have noticed that the YouTube app is no longer working. When you try to open the app, you receive a notification stating that the version has expired and that your device cannot update the app.
Why Has YouTube Stopped Supporting Android 7 and Below
As technology advances, app developers phase out older software versions to ensure security, better performance, and improved user experience. YouTube has updated its system requirements to Android 8 and above, meaning that devices running Android 7 or earlier are no longer compatible with the app.
What You Can Do
Check for a Software Update
You may still be able to use YouTube if your device supports an upgrade to Android 8 or later. Follow these steps to check:
Open [Settings] > [About phone] / [About device]
Tap on [Software Version]
If an update is available, install it.
Once your device is running Android 8 or higher, you should be able to use YouTube normally.
Use YouTube on a Web Browser
If your device cannot be updated to Android 8 or later, you can still access YouTube using a web browser.
Open [Chrome] or another browser on your phone.
Go to m.youtube.com.
Sign in to your account and watch videos as you normally would.
While the browser version may not have all the features of the app, it still allows you to watch and browse YouTube videos.
