Why Does My OPPO Phone Get Hot and How Do I Fix It

It is normal for your phone to feel warm during everyday use or while charging because your device uses power to run apps, connect to networks, and manage system tasks. However, if your phone becomes unusually hot, it is important to identify the cause to prevent performance issues or possible hardware damage. This guide explains the common reasons for overheating and provides simple steps you can follow to help your phone cool down.

The Phone Gets Hot While Gaming

Games require continuous processing power, which increases battery use and generates heat over time. Long gaming sessions make this heat build up faster.

How to reduce heat

  • Take short breaks between games

  • Close other running apps while gaming

  • Lower game graphics settings if available

The Phone Gets Hot During Calls or Internet Use

A weak network signal makes the device work harder to maintain a connection. This increases battery usage and may cause the phone to heat up.

What to do

  • Move to an area with better signal

  • Avoid long calls in low-signal locations

  • Use Wi-Fi instead of mobile data when possible

The Phone Gets Hot During Charging

A slight increase in temperature during charging is normal. But if the phone becomes extremely hot, charging should be stopped immediately.

Safety steps

  • Disconnect the charger and let the phone cool down

  • Try a different outlet

  • If overheating continues, visit an OPPO Customer Service Center or contact the OPPO Support Team

The Phone Gets Hot During Standby or Regular Use

If your device gets warm even when you are not using it, try the steps below.

  1. Remove the Phone Case: Cases trap heat when the device runs apps or charges. Removing the case can help the phone cool faster.

  2. Keep the Phone Away From Direct Sunlight: Heat from sunlight or hot surfaces increases the device temperature. Move the phone to a cooler area.

  3. Reduce the Display Brightness: High brightness increases power usage. Go to [Settings] > [Display and Brightness] > lower the brightness or turn on [Auto-Brightness].

  4. Disable Unneeded Features: Turning off unused wireless features can reduce heat. Go to [Settings] > turn off Mobile Data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and other connections you are not using.

  5. Close Background Apps: Background apps use power even when they are not visible. Tap the Recent Apps or Multi-task button. Tap [Clear] or [X] to close all apps.

  6. Pause Downloads: Large file downloads increase processing and network activity. Pause them until the phone cools down.

  7. Keep Your Phone Away From Other Electronic Devices: Placing your phone beside laptops, routers, or other phones increases surrounding heat and may warm the device.

  8. Update Your Applications: App updates fix bugs that may cause high power use.

  9. Disable Background Data Sync: Automatic syncing uses network and power resources in the background.

  10. Restart and Update Your Phone: Restarting clears temporary files and stops background tasks. Updating installs fixes and improvements. See How to Update Software Using OTA (Over-the-Air)

Perform a Factory Reset

If overheating continues even when the phone is not in use or charging, consider a factory reset. See How to Factory Reset your OPPO Phone

Note: Factory data reset will completely WIPE all the data on your phone. Before erasing all data, always make an external backup of your device because once you wipe the device, data cannot be restored.
