The Face Unlock feature on OPPO smartphones allows users to unlock their devices quickly and securely using facial recognition technology. This article explains how to enable and configure Face Unlock across different ColorOS versions.

What is the Facial Recognition Feature

The facial recognition function enables you to unlock your phone using your face. Once enabled, the system scans and matches your facial data to grant access to your device. This feature allows faster and hands-free unlocking at any time, improving convenience while maintaining security.

How to Set Up Facial Recognition

For ColorOS 12 and Above

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Security & Privacy] > [Device Unlock] > [Fingerprint & Face Unlock] > [Face] > [Enter Face].

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to record your facial data.

  3. If you have not set a lock screen password, you will be prompted to create one before proceeding.

Face Unlock

For ColorOS 6 to 11.3

  1. Go to [Settings] > [Fingerprint, Face & Password] > [Face] > [Enter Face].

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

  3. If no lock screen password is set, create one as prompted.

Available Settings and Options

After setting up facial recognition, you can manage additional options to enhance security and usability:

Facial Data for Verification

  • Use facial recognition to unlock your device, secure apps, hide apps, and protect data (including Private Safe, Private Notes, Albums, File Management, and Recently Deleted Notes).

  • You can choose to verify using your registered face instead of the lock screen password.

Low-Light Fill Light

Turn on this option to improve facial recognition accuracy in dark environments.

Note: Screen fill light is only available for device unlocking and not for other scenarios such as App Lock or Private Albums.

Direct Entry to Home Screen

  • When enabled, your phone will directly enter the home screen after successful facial recognition.

  • If disabled, you will need to swipe up manually after unlocking.

Non-Recognition When Eyes Are Closed

  • This setting prevents Face Unlock from working when your eyes are closed, enhancing security.

  • Sunglasses or similar accessories may affect recognition accuracy. If needed, this option can be turned off.

Precautions

  1. Face Unlock currently supports the registration of one facial profile only.

  2. Ensure adequate lighting and remove accessories (such as masks or sunglasses) when setting up or using Face Unlock for better accuracy.

  3. Face Unlock is not intended as the sole security measure for high-sensitivity apps or data. Use additional verification methods, such as passwords or fingerprints, when necessary.
