How to Enable Dynamic Gaussian Blur Effect on ColorOS 16

ColorOS 16 introduces an enhanced dynamic Gaussian blur effect that adds depth and visual separation across the system interface. When enabled, this effect applies a textured blur to backgrounds such as the notification center, control center, and desktop folders, creating a smoother and more layered visual experience. This article explains what the dynamic Gaussian blur (Visual Blur) does and how to enable it on supported devices.

Note: The dynamic Gaussian blur feature is available on ColorOS 16 and supported models only. If you do not see the [Texture Blur] or [Visual Blur] options in settings, your device does not support this feature. In addition to this, feature behavior may vary depending on device performance, region, or system configuration.

What is the Dynamic Gaussian Blur Effect

The dynamic Gaussian blur effect in ColorOS 16 is part of the Texture Blur system. Instead of using flat transparency, the system applies a real-time blur to background elements while preserving foreground readability.

When enabled, you may notice:

  • Blurred backgrounds in the notification center and control center

  • Enhanced blur effects in desktop folders

  • A softer, layered appearance on system panels

  • The Minus-One Screen / Glance page displaying dynamic blur effects behind content

This effect adapts dynamically as you scroll or open system interfaces.

How to Enable Dynamic Gaussian Blur on ColorOS 16

To turn on the dynamic Gaussian blur effect, follow these steps:

  1. Open [Settings]

  2. Go to [Home screen, Lock screen & Style]

  3. Tap [More]

  4. Select [Texture Blur]

  5. Enable [Visual Blur]

Once enabled, the system will apply the dynamic Gaussian blur effect to supported areas of the interface.

What Does “Visual Blur” Control

The Visual Blur option specifically controls whether textured blur effects are applied to system backgrounds. When this setting is turned on:

  • Notification and control centers use enhanced blur

  • Desktop folders show a textured background

  • System panels appear more visually distinct from content underneath

If the option is turned off, these areas will revert to simpler transparency effects.
