How to Activate Google Assistant?
Google knows everything and it will give an answer that will amaze and at the same make you smile. Right now, it’s so easy to get Google’s attention. No need to press the microphone anymore. Just say, “Hi. Google” or “Ok, Google” then it recognizes your voice and waits for your inquiries.
You can start asking questions like how’s the weather, where’s the best restaurant, or current movies playing near your location. You can also ask for certain tasks like opening an app. for example, by saying "Okay Google, Open Gmail", setting an alarm, make a phone call, check emails, open the settings on the phone, play a YouTube video, sing a song, or read a poem, and a whole lot more. Google Assistant has one nice voice too.
Applicable to: ColorOS 2.1 and above device. Check your ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About phone].
You need to activate Google Assistant first to take advantage of this function. Here's how.
Be sure to have an active Gmail account. You have to match your voice first and follow the process/prompts, then you are done.
Enable Google Assistant:
1. You Open the Control Center can open Control Center from anywhere on your phone—from any app or screen, even from the lock screen. Then Press to open Google Assistant. You can also quick-launch your Google Assistant by long-pressing the Home button.
2. Tap Sign in then input your Gmail account.
3. Tap Get Started to teach the Assistant to recognize your voice.
4. Follow the succeeding prompts. You need to say “Ok Google” twice. Same with “Hey Google”.
5. You can say “Ok Google” to unlock your device and access your Assistant directly. Just toggle to blue to enable, then click Next to start using the app.
(Note: a similar voice or recording of your voice can unlock your device)
Wake up Google Assistant by pressing and holding Power Button in 0.5 seconds.
To wake up Google Assistant by pressing and holding the power button, go to [Settings] > [Smart & Convenient] > toggle [Press and Hold the Power Button for 0.5s to Wake up Google Assistant] to green to enable.
Please note that after performing a factory data reset and you make a long press on the “Power” button for the first time, a message will appear asking if you want to turn on or off “Google Assistant” by long-pressing the power button.
Icons
• - Google Assistant’s Profile picture.
• - Tap when you would rather type questions to your Assistant.
• - Active mode. Meaning, currently you or the Assistant is saying something.
• - Inactive mode or idle. Meaning, no one is saying something.
• - Activate Google Lens. See Google Lens.
• - Will give you info about your day, like your calendar, reminders, and more.
• - Will let you search actions, to set the timer or make phone calls, and show what’s popular.
Google Assistant Settings:
Launch Google Assistant from the Control Center or from long-pressing the Home button. Tap on the top right corner of the screen and click Settings. You can also ask the Assistant to give it to you. Now you can personalize and customize your Assistant. These are the settings:
Account
Gmail Address – it will show your activities with Google Assistant to any Android devices that support Google Now as long as you’re using the same email address to sign in.
Personal info – contains home & work locations for a better route when commuting, the nickname that you prefer your assistant to call you, and an option to enable email updates to receive the latest news and features to your Assistant.
Preference – contains weather temperature units, change the default voice of the Assistant with other 8 selections, getting around which asks how you usually commute, and Summertime mode.
Payments – This is where you can set up payment methods and addresses. (Note: Not available to all countries).
Purchases – List down the things/items that you have bought.
Reservations – list down reservations you have made like for dinner, a movie date, or a day in a salon.
Voice Match – Link multiple users to a single Google Home device and share it with family and friends. Up to 6 people can use this on a single Google Home.
Devices
Phone – you’ll find other settings for the device like hands-free settings, Assistant language, preferred input, screen context, notifications, etc.
Services
• Music – you can choose either YouTube or a default music player.
• Home Control – you can add devices like Google Home, phones, watches, and even connect your smart home devices (the present list of compatible brands are present) and assign devices to room like “turn off bedroom lights” or turn off basement lights.
• News – Your Assistant will play news from the sources that are listed. Just say, “Listen to news”.
• Routines – just say one command and your Assistant will do multiple things. For example when you say, “good morning” there are 5 actions that can happen in an instant: will tell you about the weather, commute, today’s calendar, today’s reminder, & and then play music. And you can always customize according to your preference.
• Shopping list – add a list of things to buy so you won’t forget anything the next time you go to a grocery.
• Reminders – List down important reminders like a meeting or a scheduled or to call someone on a specific day.
• Videos and photos – Plays shows or movies or your Google photos on the TV. Note: You’ll need a Chromecast or Chromecast built-in TV for TV.
• Stocks – Keeps you updated about the stock market.
* Pictures, settings, and paths might differ from those of your phone, but these won't affect the description in this article.
