Enable Data Saving to Use Your Data Plan Efficiently
Situation: You are worried about your mobile data usage costs and want to reduce and manage the usage.
Applicable to: ColorOS 5.0 and above devices. Check your ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About Phone].
ColorOS 5.0 and above device automatically helps use less mobile data with Data Saving mode.
Enable Data Saving
Go to [Settings] > [SIM Card & Mobile]/[Dual SIM & Cellular Network] > [Data Saving], and toggle on the switch. Tap [On] to confirm. A Data Saving icon 
will appear on the status bar.

Note:
When Data Saving is turned on, background apps will not receive new messages and notifications except for the unrestricted apps. Tethering function will also be disabled.

Set Unrestricted Apps
Tap [Unrestricted Apps] and toggle on the switches for the apps you want to allow using data normally without restriction.
