Why Is Mobile Data Not Working on My OPPO Phone

Using your OPPO phone's mobile data while you're out can be really convenient, especially when there's no Wi-Fi available. However, there are instances when the mobile data is not functioning properly due to the signal, your OPPO phone's settings, or other reasons. The troubleshooting guide below will help you resolve this problem.

How to Troubleshoot Mobile Data Issues

Losing access to mobile data can prevent you from using essential services such as messaging apps, email, web browsing, and social media. If your OPPO phone is unable to connect to the mobile data network, there are several steps you can follow to identify and resolve the issue. The guide below outlines practical troubleshooting methods to help restore your data connection.

Check Your Phone's Signal

Check the signal icon on the status bar to see if your phone has a weak, unstable, or no signal. If you are in weak signal areas, change your location and try again. See How to Fix No Signal or Network Issues on OPPO Phones.

  • Weak 2/3G network signal: Signal strength is at 0-2 bars.

  • Weak 4G network signal: The up and down arrows of the "4G" icon do not light up.

Turn the Airplane Mode On and Off

There are two ways to turn on/off the Airplane Mode.

1. Control Center: Swipe down to see the Control Center, then tap the [Airplane Mode IconAirplane Mode] icon.

2. Through Settings:

  • For ColorOS 14.1 to ColorOS 16 and above: Go to [Settings] > toggle the [Airplane mode] off.

  • For ColorOS 11 to ColorOS 14: Go to [Settings] > tap [Connection & sharing] > toggle the [Airplane mode] off.

  • For ColorOS 7 and below: Go to [Settings] > toggle the [Airplane mode] off.

Consult Your Mobile Operator

Check with your operator to make sure you have enough data under your account/SIM card.

Check Your SIM Card

  • Take out the SIM card using the ejector tool that comes inside the box, and put it back in, and see if the connection is successful.

  • Try another SIM card on your phone. If your phone holds two SIM cards, go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data], switch to the other SIM card, and try again.

Check OPPO Phone Settings

1. If there is a VPN connection, disconnect it.

2. Enable mobile data: Go to [Settings] >  [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > [Mobile data] and enable it. Or swipe down to see the Control Center and tap the [ Mobile Data Icon Mobile data] icon.

3. Turn off  Wi-Fi Connection: Go to [Settings] > [Wi-Fi] and turn off Wi-Fi. Or swipe down to see the Control Center and tap the [WiFi Icon Wi-Fi] icon.

4. Check the Preferred network type: Go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > tap a SIM card > [Preferred Network Type], adjust the preferred network type to [4G/3G/2G (Auto)].

5. Reset Access Points: Go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > tap a SIM card you are using > [Access Point Name] and tap [OPPO Access Point Name Reset IconReset].

Note: Some models don't have this option, and APN updates automatically when the network is on.
  • In some OPPO devices: Go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] and tap a SIM, then tap [Access Point Name] and at the upper right corner, tap the [Settings Show System Icontwo-dotted] icon and tap [Reset access points].

Change or Reset the Network Carrier Settings

  • Go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > tap a SIM card > [Access Point Name], and switch to another one. If the problem persists, follow the steps above to reset the Access point name.

  • Go to [Settings] > [Dual SIM and mobile network] / [Mobile Network] / [Dual SIM & Cellular] / [Dual SIM & Cellular Network] / [SIM Card & Mobile Data] > tap a SIM card > [Carrier], and turn on or tap [Choose automatically] or [Auto select].

Restart Your Phone

Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons for at least 8 seconds or until you see the OPPO logo. Or press and hold the Power button and swipe to [Restart].

Check for a Software Update

Go to [Settings] > [System updates] / [Software update] / [About device], detect, and update your phone to the latest software version.

Reset Your OPPO Phone to Factory Settings

Back up and transfer the data on your OPPO phone first. See How to Factory Reset an OPPO Phone.

Note:

  • Make sure to use your phone in an open area within the operator's network coverage.

  • If you're traveling internationally, make sure that you have shopped for international roaming plans.

  • Make sure your phone is not severely worn, aging, corroded, or accidentally damaged.

If the abovementioned steps do not fix your concern, prepare your warranty card and contact your nearest OPPO Customer Service. You can also contact OPPO Support so we can help and assist you further with your concern. Depending on your region, you may check if you need to book an appointment before visiting your local Service Center.
