Why Does My OPPO Phone Keep Restarting
Frequent restarts or unexpected shutdowns on your OPPO phone may indicate underlying issues related to hardware, software, or app compatibility. Common causes include system errors, overheating, faulty updates, or interference from third-party applications. Identifying the root cause is essential to restoring your phone’s stability. This guide outlines practical troubleshooting steps to help you diagnose the issue and apply the appropriate solution.
OPPO phone turning off by itself
If you've ever encountered your OPPO smartphone suddenly turning off by itself, then you might want to try the troubleshooting tips below:
Water exposure
Can the power button and volume button on your mobile phone be pressed? Has the phone been exposed to water or liquid recently? We recommend you go to the service center to get your device checked.
Check for battery-related issues
The battery loses capacity over time, causing the phone to turn off. Plug in your phone and let it charge for 30 minutes, then force restart it and see if you fixed the issue.
A loose battery or damaged connectors may not hold the battery in place. If your phone has a removable battery, remove and reinstall it. Make sure the battery contact is good. For non-removable batteries, visit the OPPO Service Center for help.
If your phone’s battery is worn out or aging, contact your local OPPO Customer Service Center to replace the battery.
Phone Overheating
Check the surrounding temperature. Your phone might restart or turn off in a hot or cold environment. Learn how to prevent your OPPO smartphone from overheating by reading How to Cool Phone Battery to Prevent Overheating.
Check for defective hardware
Check if the phone's buttons are stuck. Remove the phone case and check if the Power button is stuck in the button opening. If the button is jammed, take your phone to OPPO Customer Service Center for repair.
Turn off the Automatic On/Off option
Check if the Automatic On/Off option is enabled on your phone and turn it off.
For ColorOS 13: [Settings] > [Additional settings] /[Accessibility & convenience]> [Schedule power on/off] > and check if your phone has been set up to turn off at a specific time; if so, then disable it.
For ColorOS 12: [Settings] > [System settings] > [Schedule power on/off] > and check if your phone has been set up to turn off at a specific time; if so, then disable it.
For ColorOS 5.0 to 11.3: Go to [Settings] > [Additional settings] > [Schedule power on/off] / [Automatic On/Off] > and check if your phone has been set up to turn off at a specific time; if so, then disable it.
Check for corrupted software or apps
Perform security scanning. Go to [Phone Manager] / [Security Center] > [Virus scan] and scan for viruses, malicious plug-ins, or programs.
Uninstall the recently downloaded third-party apps. After removing each app, restart your phone and see if removing that app solved the problem. If your phone won’t turn on, press and hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons until your phone enters Recovery mode. Select a language and then tap [Reboot].
Uninstall unused apps. Poor-quality third-party apps could cause a system glitch.
Check if an application you installed has an available update. Open the [Google Play Store] or [App Market] on your phone and check for updates. Apps with available updates are labeled "Update."
Close unused background applications
Tap the [Multi-task] or [Recent Task] key at the bottom left and close the unused apps. You can also manually close them one by one by swiping them up.
Detect and update ColorOS
Go to [Settings] > [System updates] / [Software updates] / [About device] to detect and update your phone to the latest software version when prompted.
Perform recovery software updates with SD card
Download the device's latest firmware and perform recovery software updates with an SD card. Then, try to reboot the phone again. Read this article to know more about this method.
Clear phone caches and plug-ins
Clean your phone storage in Phone Manager or Security Center and see if the issue is solved. Go to [Phone Manager] > [Clean Storage] / [Clean up storage] > *[Clear All] / [Clean Up] / [End All] / [Clean].
* Depending on the ColorOS version, some will show [Clear All] / [Clean Up] / [End All] / [Clean] on the Setting path, but it is the same function.
* The Phone Manager is in the Tools folder on your home screen for some OPPO devices.
