What Is Firmware and How Does It Differ From Software
Explore the different characteristics that set Firmware apart from Software in this article. Discover how these two essential components play unique roles in the functioning of electronic devices and systems.
Understanding Firmware and Software
What is Firmware
Firmware is programmed software placed in the device's hardware to control the device and its core functions. For example, the firmware on OPPO smartphones allows the hardware to communicate correctly with the Android operating system and perform the user's request. Firmware is embedded in the device as the device needs to run, and removing it may cause serious damage to the device.
What is Software
Software refers to high-level programs that provide overall control for the device or applications. For example, the software is used for interactions and activities such as typing, word processing, video editing, playing games and music or making video calls. Software is stored in memory and can be easily accessed, upgraded, replaced or even removed from the device.
