How to Update Software Using OTA (Over-the-Air)
Keeping your phone's software up to date is crucial for accessing new apps, enjoying enhanced user experiences, and resolving issues or bugs. The most convenient way to update your OPPO phone is through the OTA (Over-The-Air) method. You will receive a notification on your OPPO phone if a software update is available. Follow the instructions in this article to easily update your phone's software version and ensure you're benefiting from the latest features and improvements.
OTA update reminders
Before updating your OPPO phone to the latest software, please take note of the following:
Back up your data before doing an update. Although OTA Update doesn't require backing up your data, it is still best to make backing up data a practice every time you update anything on your phone. Make it a habit at any time.
Plug your OPPO phone into power, or keep the battery level over 40%.
Make sure that you are connected to a working Wi-Fi or Mobile network.
Do not operate or power off your device during the process.
Do not root the phone yourself, for that might cause damage to your system, and the warranty service will be terminated immediately.
How to update OPPO phone's software using OTA
1. Automatic System Push
A notification will be sent to you if an update is available. Please tap on the notification.
2. Manually Check for Updates
For ColorOS 12 and above: Go to your phone's [Settings] > [About device] > Click on the top card to update your OPPO phone's software
Connect your phone to a working Wi-Fi or Mobile network. The system will automatically show a new update, if any. You can see a notification on the "Software Update" / "System Updates" icon. Otherwise, it will show "It is already the latest version."
For ColorOS 5.0 to ColorOS 11.3: You can manually check it by going to [Settings] > [Software Update] / [System Update].
Note:
Download the firmware. Best to download using the Wi-Fi network to avoid the consumption of your mobile data.
Tap [Software Update] / [System Update]. Your device will reboot and update, which will take a few minutes.
During the system upgrade process, the phone's temperature may rise slightly and temporarily. This is a normal phenomenon and the temperature will quickly return to normal once the upgrade is complete.
If your OPPO phone did not receive the software update
We are working to optimize the software in more OPPO phone models. The ColorOS update will be released in different countries or regions in batches (which usually may take up to 2 months or more). Some models will no longer receive updates as they have reached the latest and most stable version.
If you can’t update by yourself, you can ask for the assistance of the local OPPO Service Center. If the abovementioned steps do not fix your concern, prepare your warranty card and contact your nearest OPPO Customer Service. You can also contact OPPO Support so we can help and assist you further with your concern.
