If Your OPPO Phone is Always On Speaker When Answering Calls

If your calls are being answered in speaker mode by default, and cannot be switched to receiver, there might be a system or hardware issue. Try the following simple steps below to fix that. 


Note: Check your ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device].


Always on speaker when answering calls

Follow the troubleshooting guide below if your OPPO phone is always on speaker when you're answering calls.


Turn on/off the switch to the receiver

  • For ColorOS 12 to ColorOS 13 and above: Go to [Settings] > [System settings] / [Additional settings] > [Gestures & motions] > [Auto switch to receiver]. 

  • For ColorOS 7 to 11: Go to [Settings] > [Convenience tools] > [Gestures & motions] > [Auto switch to receiver].

  • For ColorOS 6.0 to 6.1: Go to [Settings] > [Convenience Aid] > [Gesture & Motion] > [Smart Call] > [Mode Switching during Calls].

  • For ColorOS 5.0 to 5.2: Go to [Settings] > [Smart & Convenient] > [Gesture & Motion] > [Smart Call] > [Switch to Speaker for Calls] / [Mode Switching during Calls].

  • For ColorOS 3.2 and below: Go to [Settings] > [Gesture & Motion] > [Smart Call] > [Switch to Speaker for Calls].

If your OPPO phone is always on speaker when answering calls

Check third-party call-recorder app

Check if any third-party Call Recorder app is installed on your phone and the automatic speaker is on. If yes, go to the settings of the third-party call recorder app and turn off the automatic speaker.


Check your headset

If sound comes out of the speakers even when headsets are plugged in, check the headsets for any damage, or check the headset jack for obstructions.


Restart your OPPO phone

Press and hold the Power and the Volume Up buttons for at least 8 seconds or until you see the OPPO logo. Alternatively, press and hold the Power button and tap/ slide [Restart]. Then, please check if the issue is resolved.


Update system to the latest version

Go to [Settings] > [Software Updates] / [System Updates] / [About Device].
