Wiping data is a useful troubleshooting step when your device becomes slow, unstable, or requires a full reset. OPPO phones support several reset methods, depending on whether the device is functioning normally or cannot be accessed through the home screen. This guide explains the available reset types and provides updated steps for modern ColorOS versions.

When You Should Wipe Data

Wiping data or performing a factory reset may help if:

  • The phone is slow or lagging

  • Apps crash frequently

  • The device behaves abnormally after updates

You want to erase personal data before selling or giving away the phone

  • The device cannot boot properly (Recovery Mode required)

Important Data Warning

Factory reset and wipe data will erase:

  • Photos and videos

  • Messages and call logs

  • Installed apps and app data

  • System settings

  • Internal storage files

  • Accounts signed in on the device

Data cannot be recovered after wiping unless you previously backed it up.

Depending on your ColorOS version, the path may differ slightly. Here are the updated menu paths for modern devices:

ColorOS 12 and above

  1. Go to [Settings]

  2. Tap [Additional Settings] or [System Settings]

  3. Select [Back Up and Reset] or [Reset]

  5. Choose [Erase All Data]

  6. Enter your lock screen password to confirm

Older ColorOS Versions (ColorOS 11 and below)

Follow on-screen prompts to erase data.

Wipe Data Using Recovery Mode

Use this method if:

  • The phone is stuck on the OPPO logo

  • The screen freezes during startup

  • You cannot access the Settings menu

  • You forgot your lock screen password (data will be erased)

Steps

Note: This process permanently deletes all data.
  1. Power off the device.

  2. Press and hold Power + Volume Down until ColorOS Recovery appears.

  3. Select [English] (or your preferred language).

  4. Tap [Wipe data].

  5. Enter the on-screen verification code.

  6. Select [Format data] or [Wipe data].

  7. Confirm and wait for the reset to complete.

  8. Restart the device.

Reset the Phone Remotely (Google Find My Device)

If your phone was previously linked to a Google Account and Find My Device was enabled:

  1. Visit https://www.google.com/android/find.

  2. Sign in with the Google account on your OPPO phone.

  3. Select your device.

  4. Click [Erase Device].

This performs a factory reset even if the phone is not accessible.

[Settings] > [System Settings] > [Backup & Reset] > [Reset Network Settings].

Reset App Preferences

[Settings] > [Apps] > [App Management] > [More] > [Reset app preferences].

Reset All Settings (Without Erasing Personal Data)
