Can't Receive Text or SMS Messages on OPPO Phone

Having trouble receiving SMS messages on your OPPO phone can interrupt communication and delay access to important information. This issue may be caused by signal problems, blocked contacts, SIM card errors, or messaging app settings. Understanding the potential causes can help you resolve the issue effectively. This guide outlines practical troubleshooting steps to help restore normal message reception on your device.


Note: Check your phone's ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About Phone] / [About Device].


Resolve Unable to Receive SMS

There could be a few reasons why you're having trouble receiving messages on your OPPO phone. To resolve this issue, follow the steps below.


Step 1: Check for Spam and Blocked Numbers

Priority should be given to confirming whether this part of the SMS or verification code has been intercepted by the phone. If it is a phone with ColorOS12 or above systems, you can refer to the following terms for confirmation:

  • Go to your phone's [Messages] application > [Three-dotted icon] on the upper right corner of your phone's screen > [Block & filter]> tap on the [Three-dotted icon] on the upper right corner of your phone's screen > [Block & filter] and disable the feature.

If you know someone is trying to send you messages, but you're not receiving those, check to see if the number is blocked. 


Step 2: Check and Confirm if the Phone is in 'Do Not Disturb' Mode

If the 'Do Not Disturb' mode is enabled, it temporarily silences notifications, making it unable to receive SMS, calls or other alerts coming through.


If all the above steps have been checked and the problem cannot be solved, it is highly likely that it is caused by the network/server side.

You can follow these steps to troubleshoot:

Step 3: Check the SIM Card

  • Remove the SIM card and re-insert it using the ejector tool in the box.

  • Try the SIM card on another device to check if the issue occurs. If you can receive messages on another device, continue the next troubleshooting steps on your OPPO phone.


Step 4: Turn Airplane Mode on and off

There are two ways you can turn on/off the Airplane mode.

  • Control Center: From the top of the screen, swipe down to open the Control Center and then, tap the [Airplane Mode Icon Airplane Mode] icon to turn it on and off. If you can't see the Airplane mode icon

  • Settings: Go to [Settings] > toggle [Airplane mode] to turn on/off. 

    • For ColorOS 11 to ColorOS 13 and aboveGo to [Settings] > [Connection & Sharing] and toggle [Airplane mode] to turn on/off.
