What Is the Widevine or 1 DRM Certification of Your OPPO Phone?

Let's learn about Widevine and how it affects your video streaming apps like Netflix.

Who doesn’t love binge-watching their favorite shows through the popular video streaming apps? But streaming in HD is just not happening for you? Could it be your phone's Widevine DRM certification? Check here for the answers!

Read on as Prof. O explains how Widevine works and why you can't stream in HD.

What is Widevine DRM?

Widevine DRM is a built-in hardware licensing service that protects content on video streaming apps such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Google Play Movies.

This protection prevents copying and unauthorized redistribution of the video files under digital rights management (DRM).

Without the Widevine license, devices won't be able to play videos from these streaming apps.

How does Widevine DRM work?

Widevine encrypts content via three levels of security: L1, L2, and L3. L1 is the highest of the three levels. For a device to display high definition (HD) videos from a Widevine-backed service, it must be L1 certified.

Widevine L2 and L3 certified devices display standard-quality videos regardless of the subscription plan and device capabilities.

How to check if a device is Widevine-certified?

Open Google Play Store or OPPO App Market, search for DRM Info, PhoneInfo, or Device Info. Download and install any of the applications.

Once installed, open the app and view the Security Level.

Is Widevine certification charged?

No, Widevine doesn't charge a license fee for content protection. Hardware manufacturers only need to pass a certification process.

Do OPPO phones support DRM L1 certification?

Yes, most OPPO phones support L1 certification. OPPO's latest Find X2 Pro is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 flagship chip that supports Widevine L1 hardware encryption to ensure users enjoy high-quality HDR content while protecting the video copyright.

So, what do you think the Widevine security level of your OPPO phone is? Share with us on Twitter and Facebook. We'd love to know!

Note:
*It is not guaranteed that all DRM L1 certified devices will support HD streaming on Netflix or Prime Video. The devices must be acknowledged by the streaming services and additional requirements must be met for HD streaming. Contact the video streaming service provider for more information.
*Third-party DRM Info applications are not affiliated with OPPO as they are developed and controlled by third-party developers.
