Tips to secure your smartphone
Use lock screen passcode
This is the first layer of security in your phone because anyone who picks up your phone can access your apps and data stored within. Set a strong passcode that includes Numbers, Symbols, Capital Letters, and Lower-Case Letters. You can also use Facial & Fingerprint Recognition for Lock Screen. Also, never share your password with anyone. Learn how to set a lock screen passcode.
Use unique passwords for every account
Keeping a similar password for different apps or services is not a good habit because when a cybercriminal gets a user's password in their grasp, they try to use the same password for all the user's accounts. Use such passwords which are memorable words or "passphrases" that you can remember.
Keep your device's software updated
The latest update brings you various bug and security fixes, vulnerability patches, and other necessary maintenance. So, make sure to keep your device up to date with the latest version. Learn how to update the device.
Backup your data
You can save yourself a lot of trouble by just taking a backup. This will help you if the device is misplaced or stolen. In OPPO Devices there are various ways to take a backup. Learn how to take a backup.
Enable Find My Device
Find My Device is a service that lets you locate, wipe data & lock your lost Android device. You can wipe out all your data from your device remotely. Learn how to use Find My Device.
Avoid clicking suspicious links, apps & sharing OTP
You might receive E-mails commonly disguised as gift cards, promotions, offers, etc. Beware of such emails as they might be malware or contain a virus. This practice is called "Phishing" Do not click such links until you know the sender.
You might receive calls wherein a fraudster pretending as a bank employee calls you and informs you that your Credit/ Debit card is being blocked and needs to be updated. To fix this issue they will ask for your card details and OTP. Please do not share any of your OTP with anyone whether it's your bank, work, the insurance company, etc.
Use Antivirus applications
You can download an antivirus application from the Google Play Store to scan your phone for any malware and virus. Make sure to keep your antivirus application always updated.
Use apps from the OPPO App Market and Google Play Store only
As Android supports app installation from third-party sources, it is easy for developers to make or modify fake malicious apps and put them on third-party websites. On the other side, applications available on OPPO's App Market and Google Play Store are verified and scanned and are completely safe to use. Google Play Protect also runs a regular safety check on apps.
Manage permissions smartly and protect personal information
All the applications need to be granted permission to access sensitive data such as Contacts, SMS, Storage, Location, etc. Some apps will need access to certain functions to work properly -for example, Map uses your location to check the location and navigation. You can deny access to that application if you are less sure about why the app needs this feature or data.
OPPO Devices with ColorOS 5.2 and ColorOS 6 come with personal information protection which can protect users from Data leakage by sending blank information and replacing the actual data when an app tries to read your personal information. Learn how to enable personal information protection.
