Applicable to: For devices with ColorOS 5.2 and above. Check your ColorOS version in [Settings] > [About phone]/ [AboutDevice].
Background usage
For ColorOS 12 and above:
Go to [Settings] > [Battery] > [Battery Usage by Apps] > Select [App] > Enable [Allow foreground activity/ Allow Background activity].
For ColorOS 5.2 & above:
Go to [Settings] > [Battery] > [Custom Power Saver] > Select [App] > Enable [Run/ Don't Run in Background/ Smart background Running].
Note: "Custom Power Saver" is only enabled after "Smart Power Saver" is Disabled.
